Notes for the parish of Apples

• Apples 1628-1660: Earlier records are lost. It is with some pride that I note the name of the minister who kept the first surviving register, Samuel Gélieu. Most of the entries are legible, and relationships of the godparents are frequently noted. However, the earliest marriages, presumably from 1628-1629, are undated, and marriages between 1630 and 1659 are represented by only a single entry. Samuel Gélieu came from a family of highly dedicated and educated pastors, so I can only suppose that he recorded the marriages somewhere else, in a register that has not survived.
